Kid is home from NY

My kid is home. I sent her to NY with her grandmother and aunt on a roadtrip so she could visit her late fathers family.  She got to visit with her half brother and cousins and had a good weekend.  I'm glad she is home, her step dad is glad she is home and most of all the cat is glad she is home.  My brother who is staying with us is not so glad she is home, he loses his spot in the bedroom and now has been subjugated to the couch once again.  After the remodel on the upstairs he will have a normal bed to sleep in again.
We need to have a yard sale and get rid of all the stuff that the kid doesn't want and all the stuff that I don't want to haul back upstairs.  You see this is the opportunity to give her the grown up room that she deserves with matching real furniture and not just pieced together remnants of youth.  New bed, new dresser and accessories that will go along with the new floor, new rug, new bathroom and new window.  I'm glad it is getting done and can't wait to move my office back upstairs so I won't have to work off of my laptop on my bed anymore or the desktop in the tiny little hole in the wall where there is no room for me to spread out my work and get things done.
As for Papercut Rantings this time - if you don't fully understand the meaning behind the Title I chose it because if you go back to my original post you might understand.  We live in an environment steeped in abundance, waste and desire...in a world where just a handful of people control the majority of the wealth...I feel that we complain too much about the stupidest things when comparatively speaking we have more than anyone human being could need.  That being said, I would like to extend many thanks to all the Service People who risk their lives to ensure the Freedoms we take for granted in this great country we call America.  HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! and God Bless not just America - but everywhere in this world where Peace, Tolerance, Acceptance and Good hearted people are grateful for their abundances.

It has been a long time since I have posted on here. Here we are coming up on yet another holiday season and the debauchery and consumerism is rearing its ugly head. Today is Halloween and prior to this holiday I was spying Yuletide Season Sales promotions on television and the toy catalogs have been out for weeks.  I want to advocate giving in a whole new way this year. Actually it is an old way but should be renewed for the season of giving.  If you follow my blog and I know I have tons of fans - LOL - lets make this a season of giving of ourselves.  We don't need money for gifts we just need to donate our time/talent/effort towards a worthwhile endevor that serves others.
My 13 year old and I came up with this idea last year when the season of buying began and she began asking. I proposed to her and my niece who is just a year younger that they think of all the "things" that they appreciate on a daily basis, be it chewing gum, pencils, lip gloss, etc.  and then everytime they want for an item aquire two and put one of them in a shoe box.  When that shoe box is full we will take it to the homeless shelter and donate to a teenager who may not have those little everyday items that we all take for granted. My daughter went a step farther and called the shelter to find out if there was a teenager there - at the time there was a 15 year old girl - and asked what her needs were.  A night out at the movies, razors, deodorant, etc., so we traded off the shoe box for a shower caddy (much handier when sharing a public shower than a shoe box) and filled it with all the possible things my own teen daughter enjoyed.
We called the shelter and my daughter personally handed the young woman her gift and they both cried - my daughter for the young womans circumstances and the young woman for my daughters thoughtfulness.
This year my daughter is endevoring to get her entire 8th grade class to work in pairs and fill a shoe box for a boy or a girl preteen/teen as a service project.  She is at a small school and we may be able to do 20 boxes. But what I hope most is that she will continue with this throughout the year and maybe her school can even adopt a homeless shelter to provide them with these needs for teens who are often passed over during this holiday time for younger/cuter faces.

Lord, I don't know what I am not doing right but I am in need of help. I look around and see the successes of others but cannot find mine. I need financial blessings and a sign that I am heading in the right direction. I am on the verge of a breakdown here and all I see is no action- no movement- no momentum forward- I feel stagnant. Help me, please help me to be a financial success and provide for my child.

Black Friday

Well we have managed as a society to sink to a new low.  Honestly! Pepper spraying one another, shooting, shoving, stealing - for what? One more video game, one more pair of designer jeans? Bigger needs are abound. Can we make Christmas about what it is intended? If you don't believe in the intention of the Christmas Holiday then why do you choose to participate? You don't have to put up a tree and you can buy your "presents" any time of the year. If you are not Christian then don't practice Christian Holidays. Sell the plastic Christmas Tree in the next yard sale along with the lights (and all the crap you bought this year and won't use more than a few weeks before you feel it is obsolete) and all those homemade ornaments that the kids bring home from school and just buy stuff and hand it out.
Just in case you are wondering - I haven't bought a new television since I was 17 that lasted more than 4 years - I finally gave up, but the tv I bought when I was 17 still works perfectly and is the center of seldom used television room.

Counting the Blessings

I am in awe at times when I see the waste around me. Seriously, do we need one more "thing" in our homes, the need for extra storage and extra closet space and extra cars and just every "thing". Why? Are we so lost in our world of the latest and greatest that we have lost sight of the fact that big box companies thrive off of our debt and misery? Next time you buy a non-consumable ask yourself one question - "Do I really need this to live?" and then ask yourself where does your happiness come from. It is in the purchase of the new toy or electronic or is it in the life and love of your purpose? Put down the charge card and step away from the counter.

Almost over

On the edge of a breakdown here. It is almost over , I just have to hold it together for another day or two and I can break down and cry, starve myself, workout to excess, what ever! Lord help me.
